Computing

We have are two on-going computer groups, A and B.

Each of these meet monthly in the evening 7.00—8.30pm, normally in the old kitchen at Emsworth Community Centre.

Group B normally meet on the second Tuesday and Group A on the third Tuesday in the month.

However this can vary according to the availability of our volunteer tutor and group members.

If a planned session requires internet availability, then it is held in a private house and this restricts the group size to four.

There has also been a short course run recently for people absolutely new to computing.

It may be possible to do this again if there is sufficient demand, although this does incur a fee

as equipment availability has to be hired at Westbourne.

Group A

This group is for those of you who have not had the opportunity to acquire all of the basic skills

they need to use the computer as they wish.

Group A will recommence on the 16th October 7.00—8.30 at the community centre with a session entitled

“Get to know the insides of your computer”

This is not so terrifying as it sounds and it does serve to demystify the “magic box!”

Group A

This group is actually over full and has a waiting list.

Having the laptop computers has enabled members to practise what our tutor Steve is demonstrating via the master computer.  We have explored the desktop, the icons, the system tray  and learned how to put shortcuts on the screen.  We even got homework one week  – to play solitaire!  Yep, truly  - but this was in order to become more skilled in drag and drop!

Group B

This group is for those who are fairly happy with their basic skills but wish to take their computing skills a stage further.

This group is also full.  We have recently had a session solving all our e-mail problems and have also been loading programmes on to the Awards for All laptops – e.g. Adobe Photoshop
